Screen time vs. build time
Why screens can make things harder
Apps and videos are designed to hold attention, with constant sounds, flashing colors and rewards. For kids who are sensitive to sensory input, that can be overwhelming.
Switching off is often the hardest part. When the tablet goes away, the fun stops all at once, which can make transitions tougher.
The World Health Organization recommends no more than one hour of sedentary screen time a day for children aged 2 to 4, and says less is better.
Evening screen use is linked to poorer sleep in children, and sleep is already a struggle for many autistic kids.
Every hour on a screen is an hour not spent using their hands, building or playing alongside someone.
What WonderRail gives them instead
Predictable cause and effect. The train follows exactly the route they built, every time, with no surprises.
A calm kind of focus. Snapping pieces together and watching the loop go round is satisfying and repetitive, in a good way.
Their interest, their way. Lots of autistic kids love trains, and WonderRail turns that love into planning, building and problem-solving.
Gentler endings. A track can stay built and be picked up again later, so play time ending doesn't mean losing what they made.
Easy to share. Building side by side is a low-pressure way to play together, without needing lots of talking or eye contact.
What's really happening while they play
WonderRail isn't a therapy or a treatment, and it doesn't need to be. It's play that builds real skills at your child's own pace. Tap a skill to see what's going on.
“First the curve, then the bridge, then the station.”
Planning in steps, the same skill behind following a routine or a set of instructions.
“It stopped because that piece isn't clicked in.”
Seeing exactly why something happens, then fixing it themselves instead of giving up.
“Line it up, push, click!”
Fine motor control and hand-eye coordination, the kind of skills occupational therapists often work on.
“It has to go over the tunnel, not through it.”
Spatial reasoning. Researchers link this skill to later strength in math and science.
“Round and round and round.”
Watching a train loop a track they made is soothing for lots of kids, and it's a screen-free way to settle.
“Your turn to add a piece!”
Turn-taking and shared attention, built around something they already love.
Studies of block and construction play have linked it to stronger spatial skills in young children.
Build it. Run it. Build it bigger.
1Snap it together
Colorful pieces click into curves, climbs and bridges. They're sized for small hands, and there's no wrong way to build.
2Switch on the train
The rechargeable train runs the whole route by itself. Watching it make it around a loop they designed never gets old.
3Keep it, or build it new
Leave a favorite layout up for days, or pull it apart and build something new. Either way, nothing disappears when play time ends.

Questions parents ask
Is WonderRail good for autistic kids?
Lots of autistic kids love trains, predictable cause and effect and hands-on building, and WonderRail is built around all three. Every child is different, so think about what yours enjoys. It's a toy, not a therapy, and it isn't a replacement for professional support.
What age is it for, and does it have small parts?
Ages 3 and up. The set contains small pieces, so it isn't suitable for children under 3 or for any child who still puts toys in their mouth. Please supervise younger builders.
My child gets frustrated easily. Will they manage?
Pieces snap together firmly and there's no wrong way to build. You can start with a simple loop and add more pieces as their confidence grows.
Does it need batteries?
No batteries to buy. The train is rechargeable, and the USB charging cable is in the box.
Can I add more pieces later?
Yes. All WonderRail pieces fit together, so you can add another set later for even bigger builds.
